Hello Muddy Creek friends,
It's been a while since I've posted a new newsletter. This New Year started out with my Mom running fevers for 4 months straight. She lost her ability to walk and stand. The doctors could find no reason for the fevers and suggested that it was cancer. Well, it wasn't! It was an abscess tooth. As soon as the tooth was removed, the fevers stopped. Two days ago, Mom stood for 30 seconds (with help). Yesterday (also with help) she walked 8 long, tiring feet. When I showed her how far she had gone, a smiled beamed across her face. I NEVER GAVE UP! I"M THE TASKMASTER AND I'D MAKE HER DO EXERCISES EVEN WHEN PHYSICAL THERAPY HAD GIVEN UP!
I spend Mon. and Tues. with her and keep her busy with Tai Chi, Coffee chats, Craft classes, etc. When I leave, I'm as tired as she is - - thus no newsletter. So I was determined to start this today.
As always, the shop is overflowing with new bolts of batiks, Rock Candy by the designer of Fairy Frost, and Antique Serenity Daiwabo taupes. Today, classic Christmas fabrics from Moda arrived; also Blank Sumatra batiks,Troy batiks and Indo-U.S. homespuns. I have new bundles of 124 different 6" squares of plaids and stripes. I sewed them into half-square triangle blocks and set them in the BARN RAISING pattern. It's exquisite. Also new, a kit featuring Moda's Ivana line(red florals and greens) using the Tens to Eights pattern from Two Cousins.
Two Cousins has a NEW TABLE RUNNER featuring a purple coneflower. We are in the process of designing a Noah's Ark pattern and finishing the Folk Art Vase pattern. Hopefully, both will be published by July.
Second Flowers for Fabric Sale- If you bring in perennials {no grasses nor irises) from your garden during the month of June, I will give you 20% off your fabric purchase.
SHOP HOP 2008 - I've designed this year's quilt called It's a celebration! The theme is parties; so each block relates to a different party theme that each of the 14 shops has chosen. My theme is Fiesta ( I was a Spanish teacher.) so we will have Mexican food and fiesta decorations throughout the shop. Dates and times below:

DISCHARGE DYEING - the process of removing color from fabric. In this class, you will learn how to remove the color from black, blue or hand dyed fabrics using Clorox bleach, gel dishwasher detergents and Clorox bleach pens. We will experiment with different marks, stamps, tie dye techniques to create oneof a kind fabrics. Class includes use of my Anti-Chlor supplies.

FOLK ART VASE OF FLOWERS - come and play with your fabric for the day as we learn to cut free flowers, stems and leaves to create an original vase of flowers. Fusible applique technique.

QUILTING 101 -Learn the basics of quilting by machine or by hand in this 8 week class. We will cover fabric selection, template making, pattern drafting, rotary cutting, patchwork, applique,

FOUR-PATCH STACKED FLOWERS - a variation of the stack and whack technique. Using only one fabric for the blocks and the border, you will create the designs using squares instead of triangles. SMR.

STASH BASH - YANKEE THRIFT STARS - A great design for scrap fabrics. We will paper piece one crazy eight pointed star. This star has no set-in seams. SMR.

ONE BLOCK WONDERS - Choose one large scale floral print, a large scale Japanese print or other large scale design. We will stack fabrics and cut 60 degree triangles to piece into hexagons. After piecing blocks, we will arrange on design wall. BOOK REQUIRED. SMR. 1 sessions.

TEXTURES - this is a technique class. Learn to pleat, fold, crumple your fabric to create different three-dimensional blocks. SMR.

VARIEGATED VORTEX - This quilts is a course in color. You will work with reds, yellows, oranges, fuchsias, purple, blues and greens to create this contemporary design. Learn to sew curves without pins or with the CurveMaster* foot. SMR.

STASH BASH : THE BRAID - Come join us for an evening of sewing, food and friendship. ONLY REQUIREMENT - you must dip into your stash for this project. The tradional braid has been renovated by using unequal length strips. No set amount of any one fabric is required. You decide how big - from a table runner to a queen size quilt. Choose a color scheme or a theme(Christmas, reproduction fabrics, conversational). SMR.

BEADING BASICS - Learn the basics of beading( you will make a sampler of techniques), where and how to use them on your quilts to add interest and sparkle. 1 session.

BEYOND GRANDMOTHER'S FLOWER GARDEN - Have you ever wanted to make 6-pointed star designs but were afraid of the design aspect? It's easier than you think! You will draft hexagonal designs and then machine piece this stunning wall quilt. 2 sessions. SMR.

SHIVA PAINSTIKS - Create one of a kind fabric using Shiva oil pastel painsticks, rubbing templates, stencils, solid colored fabric and a little imagination. You can't make a mistake!

DESIGN EXERCISES: STRAIGHT LINES - a class on paper! Let me lead you through some exercises that will lessen your fear of design. Start with a one line exercise, then a two line exercise, etc. I promise that you will leave with at least one original quilt block design and I promise thatb you'll say "Boy, that was easy!"

FABRIC DYEING - Low immersion fabric dyeing uses Ziplock bags and Pro-Chem dyes. You will experiment with different folding techniques to dye 4 yards of PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric. 1 session

FOREVER WAVES - a quilt that celebrates freedom. This quilt is easier to construct than it looks. It is made from squares and rectangles only! Rotary cuting and chain piecing add to its simplicity. 2 sessions. SMR.
